Home

Home. Warm blankets piled up to my chin.
Rain beats upon the windows
like a steady drum.
The smell of coffee promises warmth and comfort
at the beginning of the day.
Sliding out of bed I arch my back
in a catlike gesture
Hitting the cold floor, my feet curl up in protest.
Until sheltered again in their favorite pair
of worn out slippers.
Shuffle,shuffle into the kitchen.
I pour the coffee into the waiting mug.
A few more steps
and I am at the stereo.
Switching on a favorite tape ,
dancing in the morning.
I feel the hot coffee warming my blood
in the absence of a lover's embrace.
Hearing that song,
I think about you.
Smiling as I picture
your naked torso
dancing with me
in the light of dawn.
If I close my eyes I can almost feel
your breath upon my shoulders.
