I wasn't supposed to open it
The latch was silver,and shiny.
Glistening with that beckoning smile.
The lock was open, waiting
My footsteps echoing across the tile floor
I tried to resist
Stopping only for a moment
to stare in silence.
Oh the beauty!
Almost as if we were destined to meet.
I placed trembling fingers
upon the wooden box
Warm with sunlight
stumbling and unaware.
What careful hands had placed this here
So very long ago?
I paused before opening
Why is it unlocked?
Too late
I open it
Momentarily blinded
My own reflection stares back at me.
